Exterior cladding, openings and attachments

Deteriorated exterior wood trim
Representative training image. Apply the course reporting method to observable evidence only.

Inspect accessible cladding, trim, penetrations, windows, doors, decks and attached structures for visible deterioration, displacement, inadequate clearances and unsafe connections. Describe the material and location instead of relying on vague labels such as poor condition.

Moisture staining, soft wood or open joints may indicate a need for repair and further evaluation. A visual inspection ordinarily cannot determine the full concealed extent, so state that limitation when it matters to the recommendation.

Safety conditions take priority. Loose guards, inadequate handrails and visibly deficient attachment points should be described with the location and a prompt corrective recommendation.
